8th Progress Meeting of the VARCITIES project

On the 4th and 5th of September, E2ARC participated in the 8th Progress Meeting of the VARCITIES project. The meeting was held in Dundalk, hosted by Louth County Council- one of the VARCITIES pilot partners.

Representatives from the 7 cities and 17 organisations that compose the VARCITIES consortium, met to review the progress made over the past 6 months and discuss the next steps as the project has entered its final year.

The first day focused on the 28 NbS, Socio-Cultural and Digital Visionary Solutions that have been co-developed and co-implemented in the 7 VARCITIES pilots, with the main aim to increase the health and well-being of citizens. VARCITIES partners had the opportunity to directly explore “The Still”, Dundalk’s pilot site located in the courtyard of Dundalk Library and Museum Quarter. Inaugurated in June 2024, the regenerated area includes a learning pod (VS1), a sensory garden (VS2) and bike-station (VS3), while being dotted with a number of sensors to monitor Health and Well-Being parameters.

During the second day, E2ARC, who coordinates the implementation of VARCITIES’ Visionary Solutions across the Pilots (WP6) presented the overall implementation status, highlighting risks and contingency measures. We were happy to report that the majority of the Visionary Solutions are fully operational with the remaining ones soon to be completed. E2ARC’s presentation concluded with updates on the ongoing development of an online tool to support the replication of VARCITIES’ Visionary Solutions.
